Filippo Parodi was born into an artistic family. He initially followed in his father’s footsteps with wood carving as his chosen means of artistic expression. Not until the 1670s did he switch to marble.

Two six-year stays in Rome influenced his artistic development. Despite a study period with Gianlorenzo Bernini, his early works are more reminiscent of the works of Ercole Ferrata.

Parodi worked mainly in Genoa. There he met Pierre Puget, who also encouraged his further artistic development. His large workshop also accepted commissions from Parma and Venice, as well as from outside Italy.

Prince Johann Adam Andreas I of Liechtenstein held the sculptor in high esteem and acquired several marble busts from him for his art collections.
